Children should enjoy their time at nursery. At St. George’s we ensure that children enjoy learning and preparing for school.

St. George’s offers the highest quality of education. Our education programme offers a balance of National Curriculum education complemented by Montessori education.

Babies 0 – 2 Years

Our baby unit offers a safe and caring environment with bright, soft toys and sensory equipment to help your baby develop. Babies are stimulated throughout the day through music, signing, art and crafts and a variety of tactile and messy play.

At St. George’s we follow the home routines of each baby, which include feeding habits, sleeping patterns, potty training, play time and more.

Each baby has a separate sleep room, allowing them to rest properly.

Each baby also has separate nappy changing facilities.

Daily reports are written and provided to parents. These monitor your baby’s behaviour, mile stones, feeds, changes and sleep, so that parents are kept up-to-date with your baby’s development.

Toddlers

At St. George’s we take a well balanced approach to allowing freedom and free-play.

Children take part in activities such as painting, drawing, sand and water play, craftwork, cooking, music and dance and nature study to help children to develop and express themselves.

Our under 3‘s work towards goals set by the birth to three’s DFES framework.

The toddler rooms are all well equipped with imaginative, cognitive and physical skills.

Toddlers are also prepared for progression to the pre school unit at St. George’s Nursery.

Pre-School 3 – 5 years

As part of our nursery curriculum, children from three - five years follow the Early Years National Curriculum as required by OfSTED in order to cultivate children's nature curiosity for learning and to prepare them for school.

We allow each child to experience the excitement of learning through free choice in a carefully structured environment.

We help each child to achieve their maximum potential and develop in the following areas:

  • Independence Motivation to Learn
  • Concentration Creativity
  • Self-Confidence Social Skills

Research has shown that children’s cognitive development is at its peak before the age of six. At St. George’s we believe that by creating stimulating, educational conditions, we can provide children with sound foundations for future learning.

As part of St. George’s Nursery curriculum, every child works towards the early learning goals set by OfSTED.

Children are introduced to more formal activities that they will encounter when they begin school such as reading, writing and mathematics.

Children are introduced to and have the opportunity to play and have fun with computers.

Children can also take part in dance lessons, which will help to develop their balance and co-ordination.
