Financial assistance
There are many different initiatives run by the government and employers to help make child care more affordable. St George's has put together information that may help you to get some financial assistance.
Financial assistance is often determined by the age of your child and your economic circumstances. This is provided either by the Government or your Employer.
Government support
- Nursery Education Grant
This scheme enables parents/carers of three and four year olds to take up a free part time nursery education place (i.e.: up to 5 x 3 hour sessions per week) for 38 weeks of the year with the nursery.
Grants are provided subject to criteria set by your local authority. Ask the Manager at the Nursery should you require further information.
- Child Tax Credit
This money is given to support families with children. The amount you receive depends on your income and the circumstances of your household, but all families with an income of up to £58,000 a year will be able to claim.
Tax credits can be paid weekly of every four weeks.

- Working Tax Credit
This is extra money for working families on low and middle incomes.
If you work for 16 hours a week or more and are responsible for at least one dependant child, you could be eligible to claim the working tax credit. The amount depends on your income and individual circumstances. This amount can be paid through the pay packet or directly into your bank if you are self employed.
